FAQ
What does the AI know out of the box?
It knows your site name and whatever you put in the Behavior Instructions field. Out of the box (no FAQ entries added) it will politely greet visitors, answer general questions about your business based on your instructions, and ask for the visitor's name and email if it needs to hand off to you. The more FAQ entries you add, the more accurate and specific its answers become.
What happens when the AI can't answer a question?
If the AI isn't confident about an answer, it tells the visitor it doesn't know and asks for their name and email so you can follow up. It sends a handoff notification to your dashboard and inbox so you can jump in — the same as any other conversation.
Can I take over a conversation the AI is handling?
Yes. Every AI conversation appears in your dashboard with a banner showing "AI is handling this conversation." Click Take over — or just reply — and the AI immediately steps back. The visitor sees your messages instantly.
Does the AI respond even when I'm online?
Yes — the AI answers every new conversation 24/7, even when you're online. The moment you reply in a chat, it steps aside and hands that conversation to you. When it can't answer, it connects the visitor with you live if you're available, or captures their name and email to follow up if you're away.
Does this add weight to my widget?
No. The AI runs entirely on our servers. Your widget stays ~10KB. Visitors on slow connections see no difference.
Which AI model does this use?
GhostChat's AI assistant uses Claude Haiku — Anthropic's fast, cost-efficient model. It's optimized for short, accurate, friendly replies. You don't need an Anthropic API key; it's included in the Pro + AI plan.
Is this different from the Bot Agent?
Yes. The AI Assistant is zero-setup — you configure it in your dashboard and it works immediately. The Bot Agent (also available on Pro + AI) is for developers who want to connect their own LLM (Claude, GPT-4, Ollama, etc.) via webhook. Use AI Assistant if you want something that just works. Use Bot Agent if you want full control over the model and infrastructure.
Does the AI have usage limits?
The AI is built to answer your visitors around the clock, and almost no one reaches the limit. Each plan includes a generous monthly fair-use allowance of AI replies — about 2,000/month on Pro + AI and about 6,000/month on Business (live replies and in-dashboard tests both count). If you ever approach it, we warn you in the dashboard, and even at the limit your chat keeps working: instead of an AI-drafted reply, visitors still reach you — connected with you live when you're available, or leaving their name and email when you're away. It resets at the start of each month.
